3. Is there a reason why Trussell compares the Plymouth to a plane?

Yes there is.  Trussell, we know, likes to build model airplanes, and he has a vivid imagination.  When he slips over behind the wheel of the Plymouth to drive for the first time, he tries to enhance the excitement of the moment by imagining the car to be a Hellcat fighter.  And who does Trussell become?  He imagines himself to be an ace pilot, Commander McCampbell, meaning -- "You better not mess with me!"

In the Note entitled "Warbirds, Heroes, and the Jing Bao Pole", you will find some pictures of World War II fighters, including a Hellcat, and further explanation of what Trussell may be up to.
